How to Extend the Reusability of Your Formwork Plywood
Want to get more uses out of your film faced plywood? Follow these 6 practical tips on cleaning, storage and maintenance to maximize plywood lifespan and lower project costs.
High-quality formwork plywood is an investment. With proper care and maintenance, you can significantly increase its reuse times and reduce your overall construction material costs. Here are proven tips from Dayang Wood’s technical team.
1. Apply Release Agent Before Each Pour
Always apply a suitable concrete release agent to the film surface before pouring. This prevents concrete from sticking to the panel, protects the film layer, and makes demolding easier.
2. Clean Immediately After Demolding
Once removed from concrete, clean the panel surface with a soft scraper and water. Do not use sharp metal tools that can scratch the film. Remove all cement residue before storage.
3. Handle With Care During Transportation
Avoid dragging panels on the ground and protect edges during loading and unloading. Damaged edges lead to water ingress and delamination. Edge sealing paint can be reapplied if damaged.
4. Store in a Dry, Covered Area
Stack panels flat on pallets in a covered, ventilated space. Avoid direct sunlight and rain exposure. Long-term sun exposure will cause the film to fade and peel prematurely.
5. Repair Small Damages Promptly
For small holes or surface scratches, use wood filler and touch-up paint to repair them before next use. This prevents damage from expanding and extends panel life.
6. Cut Properly With Sealed Edges
When cutting panels on site, seal the cut edges with waterproof paint. Exposed core layers absorb moisture and are the main cause of plywood delamination.
Following these simple rules can add 3–5 extra uses to every panel. For more technical advice or to order premium long-lasting formwork plywood, reach out to the Dayang Wood team today.
